Jack Darrow (whose real name was Clifford Kornoelje) was one of the biggest names in science fiction fandom during the 1930’s. This was primarily due to the numerous letters of comment he wrote to the SF mags of the day.
Many years ago, I acquired a large batch of material from his estate at auction. Most of the pulps in his collection came with a nifty bonus, as most contained a copy of the letter he’d written concerning that issue. Sometimes these were carbons; sometimes they were his handwritten drafts.
Among the pulps were the two issues of Miracle Science and Fantasy Stories. He wrote letters of comment for both, but as there was no third issue published, his letter regarding the second issue (June-July 1931) never saw print. Here it is; a peek at fandom letter writing from 90 years ago.
